Integrative Treatment in Cancer
Oncology is the study and treatment of cancer. Patients diagnosed with cancer are referred to an oncologist for a plan of treatment. That plan may include chemotherapy, surgery and/or radiation and its goal is to remove the cancer or limit its spread to other parts of the body.

Western medicine has demonstrated great advances in fighting cancer and extending the life span of patients where the disease is in an advanced stage.

But to maximize the likelihood of survival and to improve the quality of life, the cancer patient may need more than just surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. There are other therapies eg. those that reduce symptoms, control pain, and offer holistic support for the patient who is undergoing cancer treatment.

The Centre for East West Medicine will design an integrative program of care for the cancer patient that works hand in hand with traditional medical treatment to enhance the patient's well-being.

Patients who have completed their cancer treatments can also use the Centre's integrative care plan to restore a sense of better well-being and quality to their lives.

Acupuncture Treatment
Acupuncture has been accepted by World Health Organization to be effective in relieving and improving the treatment of more than 30 types of medical conditions.

Acupuncture doesn't "hurt" but you may feel of sensations such as tingling, dull and aching. These sensations are "Qi". The thin needles are inserted into your body according to your individual diagnosis and are left inside for approximately 20 to 40 minutes. During this time, most people will experience a deep sense of relaxation. This is due to the endorphins that are released during acupuncture.

The number of treatments you need varies and will depend on whether your pain is acute or chronic. Your pain may be reduced after a few treatments or it may take several courses. In some cases, acupuncture serves primarily as pain management. For others, the illness may be treated from the therapeutic effects of acupuncture.

Acupuncture is strictly regulated in Singapore. All acupuncturists must be registered with the TCM Practitioner Board in Singapore. At the Centre for East West Medicine, all our acupuncturists are registered with the TCM Practitioner Board, Singapore.
